A drought-tolerant evergreen that does well in part-shade, Red cedar is perfect for planting around buildings. Excellent for hedges, windbreaks and naturalizations. Even forms its own ecosystem; Red-cedar savannah (very rare in Ontario) All parts of tree are highly aromatic and pest-free.

Other traits: Storage, Erosion Control, Wildlife. The wood has long been used to line closets and chests because it repels moths and insects. Excellent as a windbreak, this long-lived tree will even grow in sand dunes. Migrating songbirds favour the seeds especially the Cedar Waxwing.
