In the early spring the large bright white flowers bloom before the leaves open. This woodland wildflower has attractive leaves and the sap from all its parts stains the fingers dark orange.

Other traits: Medicinal, Dye plant, Bloodroot had been used in minute doses by natives and settlers. It was later found to be toxic. Bloodroot is currently used homoeopathically. Warning; Bloodroot is toxic, Do not ingest.
