The brilliant white flowers light up a bog garden in the early spring. The three fleshy leaves also add interest to a mucky or peaty wetland.

Other traits: Herbal, Medicinal, Edible, Buckbean has astringent properties and has been used as a dried leaf or root tea for skin conditions, fever, rheumatism, worms, to stop bleeding and as a digestive tonic. Caution; fresh plant causes vomiting. Buckbeans rootstocks can be boiled as a cooked vegetable or dried and ground into a flour which apparently isn't that tasty but is nutritious.
